Everybody
is somebody in His Body!
Every
Christian should be involved in a ministry because service encourages spiritual
growth. You will mature as a Christian while you exercise your
giftedness. You can experience tremendous joy as you minister to others.
Being
connected with God, and growing in faith leads to a
desire to serve others. This is
because the closer we grow to Jesus, the more we begin to look at others as He
did – with love and compassion. As
a matter of fact, this is how we’re known as authentic followers of Jesus –
by our love for one another (John
13:34
-35). Lockport Alliance values
every member’s unique gifts, and encourages all to be “mobilized for
ministry”.
Jesus perfectly demonstrates what authentic love looks like – unconditional
and sacrificial. He loves us no
matter what, and He was willing to lay down His life to reconcile us to God –
the ultimate loving act. Jesus
calls us to follow Him and care for others as well.
He teaches us, “Whatever you do for one of the least of these brothers
of mine, you did for me”. (Matt
25:34-40) And he invites us to
serve too!
Can God
really use me?
Absolutely! The
Bible confirms that you were "wonderfully" made (Psalms
139:14). God's plan and purpose was to create a person that is Uniquely
You. He gifted you to glorify Him with specific influences -
naturally and supernaturally. As a Christian, you have a God-given
personality and spiritual gifts that motivate you. The
Bible teaches that every member of God’s church is equipped and called to
serve. All of us were given special
gifts by God to equip and empower us to serve in a unique way.
Not only do you need to serve, the
church also needs servants. Nearly every ministry often lacks people who
will give of themselves to help others. Believers should donate their
time, talents, and treasures as stewards (managers) of God's work.
Discovering your gifts and applying
them is the key to fulfilling service. And
there are plenty of opportunities here to serve our community that really make a
direct impact on people’s lives – opportunities like our children’s
ministry areas; nurseries and childcare needs; cooking & serving meals;
visitation; Brother's Keeper; Lockport CareNet Pregnancy Center; and many
others.
How
do I discover my spiritual gifts for serving?
Discovering how God created you can be
exciting and enlightening. Knowing and exercising your motivation is vital
to spiritual victory. Let us help you discover how God has uniquely
equipped you to serve. Check out Serving
