LOCKPORT
ALLIANCE CHURCH
In Christ we who are many
form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. - Romans 12:5
We are looking for men, women, teens and
children who will sign on to be a "Barnabas" at LAC and in the world
where God has placed us. In Acts 4:36 Joseph, a Levite from
Cyprus, was called "Barnabas" by the apostles. Barnabas means
"Son of Encouragement," and throughout Acts you find Barnabas coming
alongside others and encouraging them. He sold a field and
brought the proceeds to the apostles to be used for ministry in Acts
4. Barnabas took the converted Saul (now Paul) to the apostles and
told of his credible conversion, commending him for ministry in Acts
9. From Acts 13 on, Paul and Barnabas minister together as
Barnabas continues to use his gifts of encouragement.
God is well aware that we have a church
full of people, young and old, and a community full of people who
are needing the gift of encouragement. Would you ask God to
open your eyes, your ears, and your heart to the hurting and
discouraged people around you? Would you ask God to help you
follow through with your good intentions to call someone, to send a
card to someone, to pray for someone, to visit someone? God
has called us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We can't meet
every need, but we can reach out to ONE person that God places on
our hearts today.
As we try to mobilize our Body to care for
one another, don't hesitate to call the church office (433-3571) or
Laura Robbins (434-6799) to let us know of needs for the prayer
chain or for follow-up. Please don't assume that the church
office automatically knows of surgeries or illnesses or deaths in
the family. We need YOU to be the eyes and ears of the Body,
alerting the pastors and staff of needs within the Body.
Keep your eyes open for an upcoming meeting
of a restarted "BARNABAS TEAM." This is a group of people who
want to be on call for visits of encouragement to someone's home or
to the hospital. A family may decide to adopt one of our
shut-ins to visit periodically. The opportunities are
unlimited, and the blessings are as well. Pray about how God
wants to use you and your family to be a BARNABAS!
Literacy is a gift that most of us take
for granted. We move through a world of words without barriers,
filling out forms for the doctor visit, employment applications,
voter registration, and school enrollments for our children. Getting
information about public transportation schedules, movie times,
prescription instructions, or topics that interest us, is relatively
easy for readers.
In Niagara County, one in five adults are
functionally illiterate. These adults cannot read above a fifth
grade level and spend an enormous part of their day and their energy
coping with the barriers that don't exist for those of us who
are
literate. The costs of low literacy are high for individuals,
families, and our society.
The activities department of Absolut Care of Gasport is looking for donations of 100 piece puzzles.
If you have this size puzzle and would
like to donate them, please drop them off at the Nursing Home on
Lincoln Drive in Gasport or call Julie Costello at 433-1618 and she
will arrange to get them.
The
Deaconesses are looking for volunteers to help our church family
during times of crisis, illness, birth, or death in the family.
Help is needed in the following areas. Please contact the
church office (433-3571) if you are interested.
