Burkina Faso Update

Last January, our church was asked/invited by visiting missionary Andrew Schaeffer to lend our labor and expertise to help with one of several work projects in Burkina Faso.  Although the trip would take place sooner than normal for preparations (Late December of this year, into the New Year), both the Elders and Missions Committee felt that it would work out if adequate numbers of workers and supporters would step forward.

So far, everything is lining up.

About twenty people expressed interest in the trip.

The team had their first meeting on May 16th.  There were 8 people there, who, along with a couple others who could not make it, will make up the team of 10 (or so).

Each one present was prepared to do all that is necessary to go (i.e. fundraising, obtaining passport/visa, receiving needed vaccinations, setting aside vacation time, committing significant finances toward the trip.)

We also have begun to receive what is, hopefully, just the start of many generous pledges from the congregation.   The money is not required right away, but we would greatly appreciate knowing what we can count on later. There is still time to pledge money toward the trip.  We are asking that all pledges be made know to the church office by June 6, so we can make informed decisions.

A final determination concerning the trip will be made mid-late June (based on what is raised and pledged).  From there, the team will form officially and begin to train and prepare for God’s work in Burkina Faso.  Remember this entire situation in your prayer.

The Finished Product!

Last August our church had the privilege of sending a short term team to assist the construction of the Nuevo Renacer church in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.  Our group of 11 was a link in a long chain of other stateside churches who sent down their people, time, money, and prayer to bless our brothers in Christ from the DR.  Last month, each of the short-term teams, and especially the believers at Nueva Renacer had much to rejoice and celebrate over.  The work was completed, the building project finished and the people were ready to dedicate their new church sanctuary.  Missionaries Bruce & Becky Dyke sent us some of the photos so we could praise God for his faithfulness!

Adopt a Missionary

LAC's Missions Committee would like to announce what is called "Adopt a Missionary Program".  This program is developed to help encourage those who have been called to the Mission field.  It involves choosing a missionary and his/her family, praying for them and their needs regularly, corresponding with them and sending birthday, anniversary and holiday greetings.  In a nut shell - personally developing a relationship and reminding them they are thought of, loved and appreciated.

For more information regarding the "Adopt a Missionary" program please contact the church office.
